Late Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Verma at Delhi University, Late Prof. Dr. J.N. Kapur at IIT, Kanpur and Late Prof. (Dr.) M. Dutta, at Calcutta University and Prof. (Dr.) G.C. Patni, Rajasthan University of Jaipur, were the first to honour the subject of Information Theory in 1966-67. The first student of Prof. Verma, Prof. (Dr.) Bhudev Sharma at Delhi, University took it seriously and developed the subject in measures of Information, Coding theory Rate distortion theory and its applications and he with in short span produced 20 Ph. D's in the fast growing discipline.
Prof. (Dr.) Prem Nath, presently Vice President of the Society, was at that time abroad and worked with the Leading world known Information Theorist Prof. (Dr.) J. Aczel at Waterloo. Late on joining at University of Delhi, he led a group of information theorists and products 6 Ph.D.'s in this area, were the main contributors of first generation. Prof. Prem Nath's main contributor was in functional equation and characterization. Later on the second generation viz Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Tuteja, Prof. (Dr.) I.J. Taneja, Prof. (Dr.) B.K. Dass, Prof. (Dr.) D.S. Hooda, Dr. R.P. Singh, Dr. Om Prakash, Dr. H.C. Taneja's, Prof.(Dr.) O.P. Vinocha, Dr.(Km) Anju Rani, Prof. Dr. Gurdial Arora, Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Arora, Dr. Priti Gupta are contributing a lot in information theory, coding theory and Fuzzy Measure's of Information.
